GIDEON GRAVES was no ranger like ollie morales. No soldier like Eduardo Hisakawa. [break][break]

But he still wanted to help, at least in some small way, like he had recently at the crisis surrounding Sea Mauville. Rendezvousing with Ollie and patrolling together seemed like a small baby step toward that goal. [break][break]

He was close to their agreed meeting spot... right?[break][break]

Pulling up his ROTOM tablet, the professor attempted to align his current coordinates with the location he was supposed to meet ollie morales.

In a way, Rowan felt relief that he wouldn't have to come face-to-face with the Head Ranger just yet. Ollie was one of the few in the League to give him the benefit of the doubt, and he'd willfully broken that trust by returning to Team Rocket.[break][break]

This unfamiliar face, however, would serve an adequate distraction from his guilt-ridden thoughts. A miasmatic cloud of darkness began to coalesce in the area around GIDEON GRAVES as SHADOW MIST rolled in. [break][break]

"Looking for someone?" Rowan approached from the cover of the mist, his Shadow Samurott dutifully following at his side. "Me too."

GIDEON GRAVES's head snapped up in alarm as soon as he heard a voice from the gloom. When had this odd mist rolled in? [break][break]

"No." Was his immediate, icy response to the man who approached. [break][break]

Everything in his body told Gideon to run. That this was no innocent encounter. There was something off about this stranger, and the Pokémon by his side was even worse. What was that intense aura? [break][break]

"I'm simply conducting Pokémon surveys," Keep your cool, Gideon inwardly warned himself. "I was just finishing up, actually. I'll be on my way now..."[break][break]

As casual as he could be despite his nerves, the professor moved to leave.

Rowan took a few measured steps forward, Shadow Pokémon staying close to his side in case their prey decided to indulge in their flight or fight instincts. He didn't get much pleasure from attacking civilians, but orders were orders and he couldn't afford to be insubordinate, not anymore.[break][break]

"Perhaps whomever you're waiting for will come save you." A sharp whistle erupted from the Rocket's pursed lips, issuing a command to his Pokémon.[break][break]

Darkness coalesced violently around the Samurott's form, muscular hind legs propelling them forward toward Gideon with the full force of a SHADOW RUSH.

GIDEON GRAVES had come prepared in case of situations just like this one.[break][break]

He could only assume the man standing across from him was a ROCKET. Why else would he attack so needlessly? Still, as the eerie SAMUROTT lumbered forward, the professor knew he'd need to defend himself regardless of the stranger's motive.[break][break]

Swiftly, he released a dark-toned GOLISOPOD onto the field. It had been donated to him after causing trouble outside of Slateport — but was far too aggressive to be housed within his museum's Insectarium. So, Gideon had kept what he now knew was a Shadow Pokémon for himself.[break][break]

Its inherently hostile nature was helpful for battles like this one.[break][break]

"You don't have to do this," The professor urged, shaking his head in frustration. "I'm not here to fight."[break][break]

Recklessly, the GOLISOPOD took the brunt of the SHADOW RUSH head-on, using its pincered forelimbs to try and grab hold of the SAMUROTT's horn when it got close. It screeched in pain, but used the proximity to launch a PIN MISSILE at close range.[break][break]

Because of its ability, each pin was coated in flames and had a chance to burn the SAMUROTT on contact.

NOTICE

This skirmish is in danger of stalling. Since it has been a long time since Rowan Wrynn's player, Banished, has posted, GIDEON GRAVES is able to replace this thread with another Skirmish for MP.

If this Skirmish does not complete in time and another Skirmish was not taken for MP, GIDEON GRAVES will be able to redeem the MP points gained within this thread, but Rowan Wrynn will not be able to.

[attr="class","rowwtw"]Needles pierced Samurott's hide, setting their shell ablaze with flame and yet evoking no reaction from the Shadow Pokémon. In spite of the damage it took, the Samurott seemed singularly focused on the destruction of this man and their Golisopod, nothing would stop this predator from reaching it's prey. [break][break]

Even if his Pokémon didn't, Rowan faltered momentarily at their pleas. A hand reached up to grip his splitting skull, feeling the fragmented memories of his former life creeping their way in before finally...[break][break]

"I don't care." Rowan released the grip on his head and swiftly pointed a finger towards the Golisopod and let out a sharp whistle, issuing an attack command.[break][break]

In a flash, Samurott charges forward, water swirling around it like a tempest, extinguishing the flames on it's back. With a swift and fluid motion, it draws upon the energy within, sharpening it's carapace with a RAZOR SHELL before colliding with Golisopod.

Well, most of them, anyway. But parker jones did come to mind. He'd been in a similar situation with her once, hadn't he? Yet somehow they'd mended things... well, to a tenuous degree. GIDEON GRAVES wasn't having as many nightmares of her manic, blood-stained face lately, at least. [break][break]

GOLISOPOD swayed with the confident movement of a seasoned fighter. It watched with its beady, compound eyes as the SAMUROTT recovered easily, its mandibles twitching in anticipation. When the other SHADOW Pokémon made its move, GOLISOPOD slammed its pincered fists into the dirt to summon a SHADOW RAVE.[break][break]

Dark energy sprung up as sharpened spikes, meant to disrupt the SAMUROTT's charge and even pierce its hide, if able.[break][break]

The professor watched uneasily from afar. Inwardly, GIDEON GRAVES steeled himself for a hasty exit whenever an opportunity arose, the hand in his pocket fidgeting with a certain Poké Ball.

Shadows flared and rushed around the battlefield, momentarily obscuring sight and giving GIDEON GRAVES the opportunity he was looking for in order to escape.[break][break]

With as much speed as he could muster despite his nerves, the professor quickly released his AERODACTYL and hastily climbed onto her back, using her spinal protrusion as a bracing point as he urged her into the skies.[break][break]

"Go!" [break][break]

Her wings beat with a powerful force that lifted them upward. As they made their retreat, Gideon was just barely able to return his GOLISOPOD to its capsule before disappearing over the tree line.
